Relinquishing the Ownership of a Special License Plate

Owners of prestige, college, commemorative or other specialty plates, not requiring special qualifications, may relinquish ownership to another person or persons by providing them with:

• A completed Form T-237 Relinquishment of a Georgia Prestige, College, Commemorative, or Other Special License Plate Not Requiring Special Qualifications.

IMPORTANT NOTICES:

By signing the form and accepting the plate, the new owner understands that any applicable registration fees and vehicle ad valorem tax will be calculated based on the new owner’s registration period. The new owner should not place the plate on their vehicle until it has been properly registered through our office.

For Alternative Fuel Vehicles, a separate alternative fuel vehicle tax applies on top of specialty plate fees.
