Darla Eden was first elected as your Hall County Tax Commissioner in 2012. She is currently serving her fourth term.

With a wealth of experience in tax, auditing, and property management, she brings valuable expertise from both the private and public sectors. Prior to her experience as a CFO in private industry, she served as an outside Independent Auditor and Finance Director for Hall County Government. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the University of North Georgia – formerly North Georgia College and State University.

Darla is an active member of several professional organizations, including the Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants (GSCPA), the Northeast Georgia Chapter of the GSCPA, the Georgia Association of Tax Officials (GATO), the Constitutional Officers Association of Georgia (COAG), and the Tax Commissioner’s Technology Development Council of Georgia (TCTech).

In 2017, Darla served as Vice President of TCTech, where she helped provide a platform for Tax Commissioners to collaborate on technology-driven solutions aimed at improving both customer service and internal efficiencies. In recognition of her innovative leadership, Darla was nominated for Georgia’s Tax Commissioner of the Year in 2016 by her peers at GATO for her pioneering use of technology to enhance service delivery and for her proactive approach to tracking legislative trends and issues.

Community Involvement

Darla is deeply committed to her Hall County community, offering her time and expertise to various nonprofits. In 2020, she was named Volunteer of the Year by Junior Achievement for her work promoting education, workforce development, and financial literacy for young people in Northeast Georgia. A dedicated member of the Rotary Club of Gainesville, she received the W. Lee Arrendale Vocational Excellence Award in 2021. This honor recognizes individuals who exemplify excellence in their professions, uphold high ethical standards, and live out Rotary’s motto of “Service Above Self.”

Darla is also a founding member of WomenSource, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering women with resources for personal and professional growth. As Co-Chair of the 2021 American Heart Association Go Red for Women Luncheon, Darla has been an integral part of the event’s Executive Leadership Team since 2019. Additionally, Darla is a graduate of both the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Hall and the GSCPA Leadership Program. She serves on the new Advisory Council for My Sister’s Place and is a board member of the Cresswind Community Fund, where she lives with her husband, Michael.

Richard Steele was appointed Chief Deputy Tax Commissioner on July 1, 2021. Prior to joining the Hall County Tax Commissioner’s office, Richard served as the Gwinnett County Tax Commissioner from 2011 – 2020. With a total of 16 years with that office, he has also managed tag and property tax offices, as well as accounting, call center, and payment-processing operations.

Richard has also worked as a budget analyst for the CDC in Atlanta, and as the operations manager for the University of Georgia transit system. He has been involved in numerous organizations, he is currently a member of the Rotary Club of Gainesville, and has also served as the president for both the Rotary Club of Lawrenceville and the Tax Commissioners Technology Development Association of Georgia. Richard is a graduate of Truett McConnell College and the University of Georgia. He resides in the South Hall area.

Robert joined the Tax Commissioner’s team in 2017 and currently serves as the Administrative Services Manager, providing a friendly face and helpful service.

He prides himself on representing the Tax Commissioner and executing her ideas to improve the lives of Hall County residents and employees. Robert’s background in the financial industry includes Human Resource, Executive Financial Recruiting, and other Management and Account Representative roles.

Robert graduated from Roanoke College in Salem, VA, with a bachelor’s degree in business administration & finance. He enjoys all aspects of his work, especially volunteering to mentor students in Hall County through WBL, working with Tax Commissioner management on yearly budgeting, providing support to the office infrastructure, and communicating with all levels of government.
